In sight of last year’s successful trip to Rotterdam to celebrate KCZ’s 5th year anniversary,
players from all around Switzerland came together once more to drive a ridiculous amount of time just to watch the Dutch Korfball League final – a game that frankly most people had no clue who was even participating in. But since when is a stupid idea not super fun?

Three cars departed from Switzerland- the DutchMobil, the Thunberbild 2 and the Family Car Deluxe 2.0, completing a ~7-8 hour drive, and on the way collecting invaluable memories of deranged Belgian drivers driving during rush hour. Another wonderful surprise awaited us upon arrival, as on our search for dinner we accidentally crashed an Eid al-Fitr (end of Ramadan) party and were warmly welcomed by a local Afghan community that served us delicious food and invited us to dance and celebrate with them.

On Saturday the day started with an open training led by our new National Team Coach (and by now famously known sweetheart) Casper, whereby both players that had traveled from Switzerland as well as our Swiss Korfball community that is based in the Netherlands could join together to build chemistry and develop their korfball skills.

Then, for the main event, we went to Ahoy where two very exciting games awaited, both of them nail-biters. The under 19s game was so close that it ended up going to overtime, with DVO/Transus eventually getting the win over Fortuna. For the Final, DVO/Transus faced off the defending champion PKC and despite their best efforts PKC came on top once again.

With a lot of beer already in our systems we celebrated PKC’s win over some more drinks
and dinner, and then headed back to the hotel so that we are sufficiently rested for next day’s drive back. To summarize the trip, it was amazing to get an opportunity for the Swiss
Korfball community to get together, bond over our favorite sport and make some wonderful memories.
